RTNMC and CBNC hold annual surgical mission


Nickel Asia Corporation’s Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corp. (RTNMC) and Coral Bay Nickel Corp. (CBNC) completed recently a 3-day Surgical Mission for Palawan communities.

The Surgical Mission, held February 6 – 8, 2018.is a yearly Corporate Social Responsibility Program of both RTNMC and CBNC for the people of Palawan.

The partner medical team since 1991 of RTNMC is the FEU Medical Society of South California Inc., Manila and the Palawan Adventist Hospital.

184 patients went through successful surgeries on varied cases including goiter, hernia, and thyroidectomy; enlarge tonsils, abdominal mass, cystic hygroma, breast masses, ovary lipoma, cleft and palates, cataract extraction.

Some 35 patients also received dental services.

Engr. Philipp D. Ines, the Resident Mine Manager of RTNMC said in his message during the Thanksgiving Dinner that helping people in need is a rare opportunity for mining company to be able to bring together community workers, doctors, nurses and others are able execute their work at the same time help people.

“It is a rare opportunity for the Mining Company like us RTN to help people and those in need because we are focused in different field, unlike doctors they can save lives and community workers can help improve other people’s life. So we RTNMC and CBNC through the Team of Dr. Baron and Dr. Archie conducts Medical Mission every year to help and save lives,” Engr. Ines said.

Ernesto A. Llacuna, CBNC Community Relations Manager mentioned in his message during the farewell dinner that the humanitarian mission is now on its 27th.  Among the pioneer doctors of the mission are Dr. Robinson Baron with then Dr. Pete Lagrosa and Dr. Carvajal

Llacuna expressed his sincerest thanks and gratitude to the medical team for the successful conduct of the recently concluded Surgical Mission 2018 benefiting Palaweῆos.

“This is a continuing CSR program of RTNMC and CBNC,” he said.
