Doubts on the security of the Reyes brothers, former Palawan Governor Joel Reyes and former Coron Mayor Mario Reyes, while detained at the Puerto Princesa City jail pushed lawyers to file an urgent motion to transfer detention to the National Bureau of Investigation-Palawan.
In a 5-page motion filed, Monday, counsels of the Reyeses stated that there are threats on the security of the two high-profile detainees due to the coming in and out of people at the city jail.
In an interview with Rolando Bonoan, Jr., spokesperson of the Reyeses he said that people visiting other detainees are the ones being considered as “threats” to the safety and security of the two former Palawan officials who are suspects to the Dr. Gerry Ortega murder.
“There are more than four hundred detainees, kapag dinalaw ‘yan ng mga kaibigan at kamag-anak, kung mayroong gustong gumawa ng kalokohan kina former mayor and governor Reyes, pupuwede nilang i-plano at mahirap pigilan ‘yun,” Bonoan said.
The camp of the Reyeses wants to transfer them to the NBI detention facility.
“We believe na iyong NBI dito sa Puerto Princesa ay better facility for them. I’m not saying na hindi maganda ang facility sa city jail, pero mas kontrolado ang lugar sa NBI kaysa sa city jail,” Bonoan added.
Bonoan believes that this move is favorable to both the Reyes and Ortega family to ensure the security of the suspects whom he said are the “key” to find justice for the slain environmentalist and broadcaster Ortega.
