The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) MIMAROPA Region conducted its 4th Regional Fire Olympics aimed at building camaraderie among fire brigade and volunteers to select representatives in the upcoming National Fire Olympics on March 21.
The activity was participated by over 200 officers, brigade and volunteer composed by teams coming from different industrial and barangay sectors from six municipalities in Southern Palawan divided by two categories – industrial which is joined by various mining sectors including Rio Tuba Nickel Corporation, Coral Bay Nickel Corporation, Citinickel Mining Corporation, Berong Nickel Mining Corporation all located in the South, and barangay category, mostly represented by barangay representatives coming from municipalities such as Narra, Brookes Pt., Quezon, Rizal and Bataraza.
BFP Regional Director Domingo Tambalo said that the olympics aims to promote programs that are intiated by the regional office of BFP namely; SIKAP (Sunog Iwasan Kapatiran Ay Pahalagahan), BIDA (Barangay Integrated Defense Action) and Barangay Mo Ibumbero Mo.
These programs, according to Tambalo, is expected to improve each barangay’s interaction and involvement in first-aid knowledge and rescue skills, especially given that the bureau is in need of new heads presently.
“Kahit saang istasyon talaga sa Pilipinas kulang na kulang. Kaya itong mga programa lahat ng barangay dito sama-sama. Local at mga barangay pati tanods nagkaroon sila ng fire brigade,” Tambalo said.
“Lahat tayo dapat concerned talaga. Ang kapabayaan ay sanhi ng sunog. Wag nating hayaang ma-abo ang mga pangarap natin,”he added.
A fellowship, headed by Tambalo was also facilitated right after the event to strengthen camaraderie and organize each brigade’s role as firefighters and lifesavers of the community.
The various barangays and industrial teams competed and went through multiple events such as rescue and transfer relay operation, combination of busted hose and up-the ladder, flammable liquid fire extinguisher, bucket relay and hose laying and replacement of busted hose.
He also noted that the team that will be held as champion in this year’s regional fire Olympic would represent MIMAROPA on the upcoming National Fire Olympics on March 21, 2018 at Quezon City Circle.
“’Yung champion dito ang ipapadala natin sa national office sa fire prevention month,” Tambalo said.
