Around 32 New People’s Army (NPA) rebel returnees were granted livelihood assistance packages on Monday by the Western Command (WESCOM) and the Palawan provincial government under the Local Social Integration Program (LSIP).
Among the recipients were minors who surrendered during the last quarter of 2017 following focused and civil military operations in the province.
Each of them received P65,000 from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) under the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP) and a P25,000 cash grant from the provincial government’s LSIP.
Vice Governor Victorino Dennis Socrates welcomed the rebel returnees to the Capitol and congratulated them on their decision to return to government fold.
“Masaya kami dahil bumalik kayo para sa masagana at magandang buhay kaysa sa gumawa ng hindi mabuti. Alam niyo sa buong mundo ay bagsak na ang ideolohiya ng komunismo, kaya pagsikapan nating mabuhay ng maayos sa lipunan,” Socrates said.
The WESCOM also assured the security of the returnees, while the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) will monitor the assistance given to them.
