A total of 77 closed-circuit television cameras are currently being installed in strategic areas in Puerto Princesa City particularly along Rizal Avenue up to Junction 2 to efficiently respond to various road accidents.
According to Patrol 117 Program Head Dax Matillano, the city government is spending P3.8 million for the upgrading and installation of the CCTV system.
“Sa ngayon tuloy-tuloy ang pagkakabit ng grupo natin. Inuuna lang muna ang main thoroughfare pagkatapos isusunod na ang Junction 2, Sicsican, Irawan, Tagburos hanggang sa Sta. Lourdes. Inaasahan natin na matatapos ito ngayong buwan ng Mayo”, said Matillano. (“The installation being conducted by our team is on-going. We are prioritizing the main thouroughfares, then we’ll install CCTV cameras at Junction 2, Barangays Sicsican, Irawan, Tagburos up to Brgy. Sta. Lourdes, “said Matillano. )
The Patrol 117 group will also install CCTV cameras near public schools that have bigger student population and are near the national highway.
Seven new screen monitors are expected to be delivered to Patrol 117 Command Center before the end of May.
Unlike the previous videos captured by CCTV cameras which were blurry, Matillano assured that with their upgraded ‘Internet protocol’ camera the videos are clearer and the subject is more recognizable.
