Lawyer Hermie Aban was shot and critically wounded this morning (Tuesday) by a still unidentified assailant in Barangay Bancao-Bancao, Puerto Princesa.
Initial reports gathered by Palawan News indicated that the victim, a former City government official and counsel for several high profile drugs related cases in Puerto Princesa, was in critical condition when he was brought to the Cooperative Hospital minutes after the incident.
Aban was reportedly shot three times on the body, based on the Kilos Agad Action Center (KAAC) log.
The victim’s wife, Maria Dedikatoria Aban, said that her husband was riding a motorbike along Circumferential Road to buy some food at around 8:30 Tuesday when he was shot by a lone gunman wearing a full-face helmet that concealed his face.
“Naghabulan daw dito yung dalawang motor, kay Aban saka gunman na naka helmet itim na jacket. Apat yung putok na narinig dito. Nakita na lang dito sa damuhan sa tabi ng kalsada si Aban, duguan,” Luis Quadrante, chair of the barangay peace and order council, told Palawan News.
Aban had previously served as counsel for the City government’s anti-drugs body “Task Force Banat” and has handled numerous controversial drug related cases lawyering for the accused. (Reports from Celeste Anna Formoso, Katya Santos, Joy Tabuada, Keith Anthony Fabro)
