Probe El Nido extortion, Prov’l Board orders PNP

The Palawan Provincial Board has ordered the Palawan Provincial Police Office to investigate the reported extortion activities in El Nido town.

In a resolution authored by Board Member Roseller Pineda (1st district), the Board said the PPPO needs to catch the perpetrators of the extortion activities in the area.

Pineda said he received information that tourism and other business establishments in the tourist town have been victimized.

“The victims received letters demanding money and threatening them,” he said adding that the activities “may affect the local tourism in the town.”

The Board also referred the matter to the Committee on Human Rights.
