The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Palawan Chapter donated nine fishing boats to fishermen in northern towns of Coron and Busuanga, which were battered by super typhoon Yolanda (international codename Haiyan) in 2013.
Victor De Leon of PRC said the P500,000 fund, which was allotted for the construction of these fishing boats, were donated by Carewell Foundation a few years ago.
These boats are deemed useful not only in fishing but also in disaster response in times of calamities.
Meanwhile, PRC Palawan received from Canadian Red Cross a new unit of HiLux, which they can use when traveling to remote towns as part of their blood-letting activity.
The national PRC also provided its provincial office with new fiber glass rescue boat that can be used in disaster response.
