Rodolfo “Pong” Idusora has all the right reasons to feel good these days. In August, he will be shooting his first music video in Palawan as a full-pledged commercial recording artist under a recording company.
It was a long and difficult road for the former media practitioner cum resort manager to finally realize a dream many artists strive for – to break into the mainstream music industry. For Pong, it was because of sheer vocal talent and determination that he finally achieved his dream.
Even at a young age, Pong knew that his singing ability is his biggest asset that will carry him through. Born to a poor couple who raised their family in a kaingin farm in the village of Langogan, north of Puerto Princesa City, Pong knew what hardship meant.
He was the eight child of the 11 children in their family. He remembers going to school in tattered shorts and be bullied at laughed at by his classmates. When he would be tasked to sing on school programs he would borrow shoes from friends because his own shoes were already worn out.
When he was eight years old, he said a big music companies offered him a music career. But her mother turned it all down because she didn’t want Pong to be away from her. He thought this was a missed opportunity. On hindsight, Pong knew that this was part of the plan of his life.
He endured the hardship, finishing his college education at the Palawan State University, major in mass communication, supporting his own studies by working various jobs.
He took up a job as a resort manager. He’s been working faithfully for five years and has never forgotten his love for singing. This job helped him support the education of his siblings, nephews and nieces. In addition to helping his family, Pong is also supporting six children in their studies, four of which are from the Batak tribe.
He said he learned about these Batak children through a friend and referrred them to the Principal of Manggapin Elementary School in Brgy. Langogan.
Pong’s love for singing naturally gravitated him to use social media as his medium for expression after finishing a self-recorded album. A balladeer with a golden voice, he was an instant hit and gained many followers on his Facebook page.
Even while busy at his work as a manager of a popular weekend resort in the City outskirts, Pong would readily accede to requests of songs that he would record and post for his follower. Little then that he knew this was going to be his ticket to the mainstream music industry.
“Hanggang nga kinuha ako ng Amersian Records. At yun nga, malapit na akong pumirma ng kontrata sa kanila,” he said.
Currently, he is busy promoting his first album simply titled Pong Isudora which includes some his original compositions Sa Puso Ko Walang Iba and Di Kita Ipagpapalit.
Lined up for him to do is to perform in different functions all over Manila, including singing at the Luna Awards, the Film Academy of the Philippines’ awards for outstanding achievement and the counterpart of Oscar’s Awards.
He is also set to perform in different malls to promote their records. His handlers are also planning a concert in Puerto Princesa City together with some performers.
