Nationalist People’s Coalition standard-bearer Grace Poe is pushing to have a Code of Conduct among countries in the West Philippine Sea to avoid possible impediment to the freedom of navigation in the area which is now being claimed by China.
“We should take an active role in leadership sa West Philippine Sea para hikayatin ang ibang bansa na pilitin ang China na magkaroon ng code of conduct,” Poe said.
Poe reiterated that the Philippines should remain firm over its case in the Arbitration Court regarding the West Philippine Sea conflict. She said that there is a need to form an alliance among countries surrounding WPS.
Vice- Presidential candidate Chiz Escudero has warned some candidates to be cautious in commenting about the West Philippine Sea issue because it might affect the diplomatic relations of the Philippines with other countries.
“Sana maghunos-dili tayo sa mga pahayag kasi kung sakali ito ay makakaapekto sa relasyon natin sa ibang bansa,” Escudero said.
The NPC line-up led by Poe and Escudero is in Puerto Princesa City today for a campaign sortie. They were warmly met by Puerto Princesa City Mayor Lucilo Bayron upon their arrival at Puerto Princesa City International Airport.
Poe and her team had a courtesy call with Palawan Governor Jose Chavez Alvarez.
