The Association of Petroleum Engineering Graduates held its 1st Grand Alumni Homecoming on December 21-22, 2017 at the Palawan State University Performing Arts Center, Hue Hotel and Gabrielle’s Pool and Resort.
The 2-day event was highlighted by a Thanksgiving Service, Oil and Gas Forum, election of officers, alumni night and brotherhood outing. The Alumni Homecoming’s theme was “A convergence of Unity and years of excellence”.
The forum on Global Issues and Trends in the Oil and Gas Industry was attended by students members of the Society of Petroleum Engineers – PSU Chapter. Resource Speakers were Engineers Karen Joy Valencia-Catain (Geomechanics Specialist, Shell Netherlands), Jonathan Nitura (Production Engineer, Schlumber -Malaysia), Julius Caezar Soza (Managed Pressure Drilling Engineer – Weatherford, UAE), and Harthwell Capistrano (Health, Safety and Environment Advisor, Maersk – Qatar / CEO and President – Petrosphere Inc.).
In one of the presentation Engr. Valencia-Catain discussed the impact of the industry’s economic downturn, the risk and opportunities which includes the cost cutting, major layoffs, loss of experience generation, digitalization, synergies with renewables, unconventional emerging trends on shale development.
On the latter part of the Alumni Night, faculty members and former Deans, outstanding Alumna were given certificates and plaques of appreciation for their contributions to Petroleum Engineering through the years.
During the induction of elected Alumni Officers, Engr. Emi Marjorie Nato-Gabinete, Alumni President, accepted the challenge of supporting the University and the students as a way of giving back to their alma mater with the strong commitment from all the Alumni coming from the different parts of the world.
Petroleum Engineering is a flagship course of Palawan State University which started in 1995 though the leadership of then Congressman Alfredo Abueg Jr., David Ponce de Leon and late PSU President Crispiniano Acosta Sr.
The University has around 600 alumni who are successful in their chosen field of specialization.
