Pedestrians using cellphones while crossing to be penalized

Councilor Gadiano proposes policy against the use of mobile phones while crossing the road.

City Councilor Henry Gadiano claims there are “ridiculous yet shocking” high number of accidents involving pedestrians crossing the road while using their mobile devices, and has asked the City Council to pass an ordinance banning the practice.

He said that his proposed ordinance would help prevent the accident due to the use of mobile phone while crossing the streets.

The penalty clause under the proposed ordinance provides for fines ranging from P500 to P2,500 and mandates the City Traffic Management Office to be the main implementing body of the policy.

“Hindi tayo after sa penalty, ang gusto natin ay compliance sa ordinance na ipapatupad,” said Gadiano.
