After the successive shooting incidents and encounter between the insurgent groups and the military in the past few days, the Palawan Provincial PNP has deployed yesterday, April 6, additional security force in the town of Bataraza to avert additional problem in the area.
Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Percival Mendoza said that the Provincial Joint Coordinating Center composed of Comelec, Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces are concentrating in the area. Mendoza said that they deputized security personnel for the opposing political parties in Bataraza town.
The town of Bataraza is now an “area of concern” or election watch list are of Comelec because of the shooting and ambush incidents that transpired since the last quarter of 2015.
Based on the record of the Provincial PNP, on April 4, an 89 year-old farmer Islane Hadge Abdulkarin was attacked by more or less 10-20 unidentified persons armed with high-powered gun wearing camouflage uniform at Sitio Buwal-Buwalan, Bgy. Bono-Bono. Two days after, another shooting incident happened in Bgy. Culandanum. The victims were Joel Narciso Pondales, former Bgy. Captain of the said barangay and Jerson Boyson Ortis, 34, single, watchman of San Andres Palm Oil Co. Initial investigation of the incident revealed that the victims were riding a motorcycle on their way to their home from work and they were ambushed at Culandanum River Bridge by unidentified gunmen.
On Thursday, April 7, Philippine Marine Troop had an encounter with an armed group in Brgy. Bono-bono.
“Pinag-aaralan pa kung election-related incidents ang mga ito. Tinitingnan pa natin ang iba’t-ibang anggulo,” said Police Inspector Ric Ramos, spokesperson of Provincial PPO.
