The southern town of Brooke’s Point will open its own Regional Trial Court (RTC) tentatively in March this year, Mayor Mary Jean Feliciano said Friday.

“Mga 60% to 70% na ‘yung building, hopefully by March ma-inaugurate na natin,” Feliciano said.

The plan was initiated by the municipality through a resolution addressed to the Supreme Court in 2013. It aims to cover Brooke’s Point and its neighboring towns including Balabac, Bataraza, Sofronio Española and Rizal.

“Una muna sa justice hall, humingi tayo ng tulong sa dati nating executive judge. We passed a resolution addressed sa Supreme Court stating na bigyan lang kami ng slot dito tapos kami na bahala sa building,” Feliciano said.

She said funding for the construction of the building for the RTC Court amounting to P15 million was shouldered by the municipality. It will have two salas, a fiscal’s office and space allotted for the Public Attorney’s Office.

“’Yung building, LGU ang nagpapagawa niyan. Talagang yan na din ang clamor ng mga tao, nakikita ko kasi bilang lawyer. Ako mismo tinatamad pumunta ng Puerto to attend hearing tapos hindi matutuloy,” Feliciano said.

“’Yung pamasahe namin, oras at pagod mo to travel hindi biro. Eh karamihan dito satin mahihirap,” she added.
