Provincial government has launched the book “Les Arts De La Parole Des Montagnards Palaw’an” authored by Dr. Nicole Revel, that essays the rich culture and way of life of the Pala’wan tribes.
Dr. Revel is an emeritus professor of Linguistic in Paris Descartes University, research director of Centre National De Researche Scientifique and also a member of Language, Music and Societies research group.
The book “Les Arts De La Parole Des Montagnards Palaw’an” or “Pala’wan Highlanders Verbal Arts” was written in French and English. The book contains the video footages documenting the Palaw’an’s culture from the different parts of Southern Palawan.
“Here my attempt is to give access to a very particular presence in the world of a small tropical forest society of the Philippine archipelago, animists, equalitarian, non-violent, highly vulnerable, hunter with blowpipe, forgers and upland raise culture cultivators,” Revel wrote in the book.
According to Rose Caabay, Provincial Culture and Arts Officer, the book highlights the simple way of life of the Pala’wans in the face of modern challenges and difficulties that they face.
“Isa itong napapanahong libro, nakasaad dito na sila ay nananatiling namumuhay ng payak sa kabila ng sitwasyon natin ngayon lalo na sa politika. Isa pa, atleast may mga nakalatag ng mga information na pupwedeng pakinabangan hindi lamang dito as museum kundi sa iba rin na mas maraming makakabasa,” Caabay said.
Palawan Highlanders Verbal Arts has a tag price of €49 or about P3,000.
