An estimated 325 college scholars, mostly belonging to the Pala’wan indigenous communities from 22 barangays of Bataraza underwent a two-day orientation on the programs and activities of the two mining companies in the town.

Reynaldo “Bong” Dela Rosa, the community relations manager of the RTNMC, said the orientation about Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) and Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC), held on May 28-29, was part of the tradition of both mining companies for its scholars before every start of the school year, as a key component of their Social Development Management Program(SDMP).

In his message, Dela Rosa urged the scholars to take full advantage of the scholarship grants they were given as an opportunity to enter the workforce and positively contribute to society.

“Kayo ay iilan lamang sa mga masuwerteng kabataan dito sa Bataraza dahil sa loob ng more than 70,000 na population ng munisipyo, 60% dyan ay represented ninyong mga kabataan, at kayo lang ang nandidito ngayon.  Itong SDMP scholarship ng RTNMC at CBNC ang isa sa pinakamalaking sholarship program sa buong Palawan,” he said.

Part of the program was the signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between scholars, parents and the community relations office of RTN and CBNC.

The provision of scholarship is the flagship program of RTNMC and CBNC under the education sector of its Social Development Management Program(SDMP). The two companies have been implementing the program since 2004 and have produced numbers of professionals.
