Mining firms turn over completed school fencing project

Students, faculty and staff of Ocayan Elementary School pose with representatives from the mining firms during the turn-over ceremony for the completed perimeter fencing project.

Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) and Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC) recently completed the construction of the school fence of Ocayan Elementary School (OES) in Barangay Ocayan, Bataraza.

The 160-m long perimeter fence with a total allotted budget of Php 1 million now covers the entire school facility which has eight classrooms and a school stage.

The project was part of the Annual Plan for the year 2017 under Education Sector through RTNMC and CBNC’s Social Development and Management Program.

The turn-over ceremony was attended by Jenny Dela Vega, Community Development Assistant of Barangay Ocayan, Reynaldo “Bong” Dela Rosa, Community Relations Manager of RTNMC, and Danilo Recla, Barangay Captain.

Dela Rosa relayed the companies’ gratitude on the support they received from Barangay Ocayan in implementing its Social Development and Management Program.

The project has benefited 263 students from Pre-school to Grade 6 as well as faculty and staff of Ocayan Elementary School.

“Masaya talaga kami dito sa Ocayan Elementary School, lalo na’t natayo na yung school fence dito. Wala na pong makakapasok basta-basta sa school namin. Kasi dati parang mababagsak na ‘yung bakod. Kaya malaking pasasalamat po talaga namin sa pagbigay ng suporta,” Jocelyn Estares, School Head of OES, said.

This project was part of the campaign “Sa Responsableng Pagmimina, Edukasyon ay Mahalaga”.
