The confusion over the position of Vice Mayor was finally resolved Friday after the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) issued an order instructing Councilor Nancy Socrates to give way for the assumption of Luis Marcaida III in the position.
Marcaida took his oath as vice mayor in a ceremony held at the barangay hall of Sta Monica without any of the City councilors present, underlining his ongoing rift with Bayron and his political allies in the Council.
Marcaida said he and Nancy Socrates came to a “peaceful arrangement” to resolve the impasse after the latter refused to step down as vice mayor without a clear-cut order from the DILG.
“Maayos ang naging usapan namin ni Ma’am Nancy Socrates,” Marcaida said.
Addressing his ongoing conflict with Bayron, Marcaida said he has accepted his situation even if did not intend to break ties with his former political ally.
“Wala naman akong hinangad na masama. Nagkataon lang naman na ako ang Bise Mayor noon. Ito ay para punuan lang ang posisyon na bakante, dahil nga nagkaroon ng dismissal,” said Marcaida.
“Napakasakit isipin na matapos lahat ng effort mo, para bang ako ang may kasalanan ng lahat. Wala akong kasalanan, nagkataon lang na ako ang Vice Mayor,” he added.
Marcaida earlier described himself as “buong bise mayor at kalahating mayor”.
“Wala tayong magagawa, iba-iba naman ang interpretasyon natin, basta sa ngayon wala akong ibang personalidad kundi bise mayor,” he said.
He brushed aside the observations that none of the councilors showed up during his oath taking.
“Naintindihan natin na wala yung mga konsehal dito kasi wala naman talaga tayong pinadalang imbitasyon,” he said.
Meanwhile, Marcaida disclosed his plan to run as mayor for the next election under his party “Sanib Pwersa” party, and introduced his campaign hastag #LuisMarcaida2019.
