Update on Ortega murder case hearing: “Bumar” takes the witness stand

The main witness on the Gerry Ortega murder case, Rodulfo Edrad, Jr. alias “Bumar” has finally took  the witness stand today, March 21, in a hearing held at Regional Branch 52 in Puerto Princesa City.

“Bumar” is the main guy allegedly contacted by the principal suspects former Palawan Governor Joel T. Reyes and brother Mario to murder the journalist and environmentalist Dr. Gerry Ortega in January 24, 2011.

“Bumar” did not retract his statement on his affidavit. He remained to his statement that he was ordered by the  Reyes brother to find a way to kill Ortega.

Based on the statements of other witnesses it was “Bumar” who ordered Marlon Recamata to kill Ortega.

He first went into hiding but later surrender and became the state witness.

It is expected that RTC Branch 52 Judge Angelo Arizala will soon release the decision on the petition for bail of the Reyes brothers.

In an interview with Reyes’ close supporters present during the hearing but refused to be named, they have noticed some inconsistencies in the statement of Edrad.

They are hopeful that the local court will decide the petition for bail the soonest as the Reyes brothers are running for local posts in the town of Coron for the May 2016 elections.
