The Department of Agriculture has brokered an arrangement for the agrarian reform communities in Palawan to supply rice to Ayala Corporation’s resort hotels in El Nido.
Raymundo Imaysay, chair of the Palawan ARC Cooperative Federation, an aggrupation of all agrarian reform communities (ARC) associations in the province, said they will be supplying rice to the prime resort as part of an agreement facilitated by the DA.
He said that this is now the second month that their federation supplied 120 bags of rice to the resort hotel and for the entire year of 2018, they will be supplying them of the same volume every month.
The federation is composed of 35 ARC associations from the different towns throughout the province. Aside from DA’s help, they were also assisted by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).
“We are the marketing arm of the ARC associations. We buy palay from our ARC associations composed of farmers, at a competitive price para naman sila din ay matulungan”.
“Dati kung dun nila binibenta sa ibang rice traders, binibili lang ng mura, wala rin namang magawa si farmer, kasi nagkaka-utang o nag cash advance na sya kay rice trader. Mahirap talaga pag ganun. Ngayon ay tinutulungan natin ang mga farmer-members sa bawat ARC associations”.
Being a cooperative federation, every member receives a patronage refund and dividends. These are shares of the members from the proceeds or net income of the federation and divided among them, based on the guidelines set by their cooperative federation.
The federation has put up a rice mill and processing center in Narra town with assistance from the previous administration.
Each ARC associations are also engaged in producing palm oils, banana, coconut, root crop and other agricultural products.
