The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday advised local government units they can immediately suspend classes in Palawan if weather condition worsens, even if the province has not been officially placed under a storm warning.
Provincial DepEd disaster risk reduction management officer Eugene dela Tore said there was no order for automatic suspension of classes in the wake of Typhoon Maria because Palawan was not placed under a storm warning.
He added automatic class suspension will be applied only for kindergarten during Public Storm Warning Singal No. 1; the elementary level for Signal No. 2; and all levels for Signal No. 3.
He said only the municipality of Culion has declared a suspension of classes on daycare and elementary levels.
