The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MIMAROPA has conferred a Special Citation Award to the Kalinga para kay Lolo at Lola program of the Provincial Government of Palawan.
DSWD Regional Director Wilma Nadiamos conferred the award during the Program Implementation Review (PIR) conducted by the department.
Abigail D. Ablaña, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), said the program involves the grant of social pension to low-income and indigent senior citizens who are not covered by the national program of the DSWD.
“The program is designed to reach out to those not covered by the national program,” she said.
Since it started in 2014, there are already 9,650 indigent senior citizens who benefited from the program, according to Ablaña.
The provincial government of Palawan implemented the program in adherence to R.A. 9994 otherwise known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010. The law directs the local government units to grant monthly pension to low-income senior citizens within their jurisdiction to support their needs specifically for food and medicines.
P20 million was allocated by the provincial government to support the program’s implementation.
