Someone told me a story about the three insurance companies trying to outdo each by advertising their products to the public. One company said that its policy covers their customers from ” birth to death”. The second boasted its better offer of coverage ranging from” womb to tomb”. The third one downplayed the other two by asserting that it is the best of all because its coverage runs from “conception to resurrection”.
In John’s Gospel 6:51-58, 66-68, Jesus offered the biggest and most comprehensive spiritual insurance coverage of all time for this and the next life, premium is free and his product being his own “ Body and Blood”. He said; “ Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood has eternal life… so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me”. He means it and he is serious about it but sadly as a result of this, many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him. Jesus then said to the twelve, do you also want to go? Peter answered him, “ Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God”.
Despite the people’s adverse reaction, Jesus did not back off from what he said, but stood for the truth and nothing but the truth at all cost. It’s like, “Take it or Leave it” kind of thing and that’s how Jesus managed the rowdy situation with his firm defense of the truth. We gain respect and trust by being true to our words, actions and commitments. Unfortunately, some people specialize in telling half-truth, others are masters of hiding the truth and many more are twisters of truth to save their faces or serve their selfish and corrupt intentions. Many are infected and sick with “ truth malady and truth decay”.
The truth of Jesus’ discourse refers to the Holy Eucharist or the Mass where we experience the love and forgiveness of God. It is where the hungry sinner is fed with the Bread of Life, it is where we encounter our Lord in a very especial way, it is where God enters into our body and nourishes us with his grace and mercy. When we are at Mass, we should be at our best worshiping and adoring disposition and comportment by setting aside our mobile phone, refraining from texting or engaging in conversation, but let us focus at the altar where the mystery of God’s love is unfolding before our very eyes, and the miracle of Jesus’ absolute presence is happening. The Holy Eucharist is our provision to the next life.
The words of the sick man to whom I administered the Holy Anointing of the sick, the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Holy Communion gave me a real good point of reflection when he said that he was ready to die after receiving the Holy Eucharist in which I interpreted his words to mean that he didn’t have only the “ passport” to heaven, he also has a “ visa” to heaven and in addition, he also has the “boarding pass and hence, he is ready “ to go“. Remember the Lord’s promise that; “ Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my Blood has eternal life and I will raise him on the last day ” (Jn. 6:54).
Truly the Holy Eucharist is our provision to the next life. And by the way, perhaps you are busy preparing your retirement plan, life insurance plan or burial plan and other plans, but what about your “ Exit Plan” from this mortal life and your “ Entry Plan” to immortal life? Make sure that you consider it now and plan it well, but better yet, talk to the Master Planner, Jesus, the carpenter’s Son who surely knows what’s best for he said that he is the Way, the Truth and the Life, right?
On the flip side, someone said that God writes with a pen that never blots, speaks with a tongue that never slips, and acts with a hand that never fails, trust him for he knows best. And let us pray to have eyes that see the best in people, let’s ask the Lord to make our heart forgive the worst, a mind that forgets the bad, and a soul that never loses faith and trust in God. Remember that if we have God in us we have everything in us and let’s be like a candle which burns itself but gives light to others. You cannot ask God to make room for you in heaven if you have no room for him in your heart. If you tell the truth you don’t have to remember anything. Our obligation is to do the right thing and leave the rest to God. It’s a strength of character not to condemn someone based on little something that someone told you for there is always a lot more to the story. As it is said that the true gift of our mistake is the knowledge we gain from it and the complete nourishment is the gift of the Eucharist. Amen on that folks!!
In her Diary entry no. 797, St. Faustina wrote Jesus’ words; “ I am very pleased that you confide your fears to Me, My daughter, speak to Me in a completely simple and human way. “
