Influx of tourists in Palawan expected this summer

The provincial government is optimistic that there will be an increase in the number of tourists in Palawan this summer season after Governor Jose Chavez Alvarez has directed to intensify the promotion of the province’ top destinations.

 

According to the data from the Provincial Information Office (PIO) there are 928,378 tourists who visited the province last 2014. Of the total figure 666,293 are locals while 262,085 are foreign visitors.

 

As of press time, the Provincial Tourism Office has not released yet the 2015 data of tourists arrival in the province.

 

Recetnly, the provincial government launched “Bantay Turista” Program which is mandated to provide information to tourists about the region’s weather condition, possible dangers of the place, environmental protection and Palawans’ culture. Involved with this program are the following agencies: Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA), Coast Guard, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), and our local police with the supervision of Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO).

 

Aside from Bantay Turista, the provincial government also launched the Palawan: World’s Best Island Tourism and Investment Expo, a two part event composed of an investment forum happened last July 28, 2015 held at the Hotel Intercontinental which focuses on agriculture, agribusiness, power and infrastructure, and a trade fair last August 7 to 11, 2015 at the Glorietta Palm Drive Activity Center. In the said event Gov. Jose Ch. Alvarez said much-needed infrastructure projects will be under way to improve the tourism and investment climate in the province.
