Indigenous People’s ‘tribal games’ held in Roxas, Palawan


With the theme “Mahalin mo, Kultura mo, Galing mo, Ipakita mo ” an Indigenous People (IP) ‘Tribal Games’ in the province was held on Friday, February 24, 2017 at People’s Park, Roxas, Palawan.

Different indigenous games were prepared by the organizers for the IPs, including kadang-kadang, pagbayo ng palsy, archery, supok, spear throwing, akyat yantok, relay, and cultural dance contest. The participants hail from the various ethnic and indigenous groups of Roxas, namely the Batak, Tagbanua, Tandulanen, Agutaynen, Cuyonenen and Cagayanen groups. Collectively, the said groups are also organized under ‘Nagkakaisang Katutubo sa Bayan ng Roxas’ or NAGKAROPA.

The participants also received free medical services from the Joint Task Group in Northern Palawan and dental services by the NAVFORWEST.

The said program was initiated by the MBLT-4 with the support of the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP), provincial government of Palawan, local government of Roxas, 3rd Marine Brigade, Western Command, Roxas Municipal Police, and stakeholders.

Per Lt. Gen. Raul del Rosario of WesCom, guest speaker for the said activity,”One of our mandates in AFP is to support a tribe, upang tulungan sila na mapanatili ang mga tradisyunal na laro na bahagi ng mayamang kultura ng lalawigan.”

Roger Fresnillo, Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative of Roxas, expressed his gratitude to the organizers. “Lubos ang aking pasasalamat sa ating mga kasundaluhan. Nabigyan kaming mga katutubo ng gan’tong pagkakataon at nang maibahagi namin ang aming mga talento,” he said.
