Visiting Senator Riza Hontiveros on Saturday said that while she supports the Bangsa Moro Basic Law (BBL) measure in Congress, she believes that Palawan should not be included in the measure.
“Hindi ko talaga na-i-imagine na Palawan will be part of the Bangsamoro. Kasi Palawan is part of Southern Luzon and not part of Mindanao,” Hontiveros said.
She also said that the people, culture, and many other aspects of the province differ from that of the people in the proposed Bangsamoro state. She added that even if Palawan was drafted in the Tripoli agreement and various agreements in the past, it is still hard to reconcile.
“Geographically, ang Palawan ay mas malapit pa nga sa Luzon and Visayas,” Hontiveros further said.
She added that Palawan is also not contiguous to any part of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM)– which the BBL seeks to replace with a new Bangsamoro entity – or any portion of Mindanao.
