They are 508 kilometers apart. They are separated by land, bridges and sea. But these two places became one- united by one purpose.
The town of Dumaran is located in the Northeast part of Palawan. Its main seat of government is located in the island. A travel to Dumaran is a challenge. Most of the portion of the road are rugged and unpaved, the wooden bridges are almost down so you have to take a detour, and the mode of transportation is not so comfortable- public transport is not a good option when you go to Dumaran.
The road will lead to Bgy. Sta. Teresita, one of the mainland villages of Dumaran. It is where the wharf to the island is situated. Boats are waiting to bring you to the island of Dumaran!
Dumaran is known as “Land of Nothing” because of its distance from the mainland Palawan especially from Puerto Princesa City, the province’ capital.
The remoteness of the place is one reason why the government is having difficulty in bringing basic social services.
Any help that reaches Dumaran is a boon.
Armed with a passion to help by extending beyond its community, the Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation through its Community Relations Department went to Bgy. Capayas, Dumaran.
They brought to the community the 300 sets ng school supplies, teaching materials and office supplies, game boards, basketball and volleyball for students and teachers.
Around 320 families were also recipient of grocery packs and used clothing.
The outreach program is coupled with information dissemination on responsible mining.
Esan Lauricio, Information, Education and Communication Supervisor of RTNMC said the company is extending the support upon knowing from one of the staff of the local government of Dumaran that it is one of the poorest town in Palawan.
Talagang in need of help and yung Bgy.
The gesture of RTNMC to help the community regardless of the amount was appreciated by the community- young and olds.
Buong puso po naming tinatanggap ito,” said Angie Abian one of the beneficiaries of the outreach program.
The outreach program in Dumaran is the second activity in the northern Palawan after the company’s Operation Smile in the town of Taytay in August last year wherein operations were conducted for people who has cleft palette.
Reaching people beyond our borders, beyond our capacities and beyond interests will bring so much joy and blessing to one’s life.
