The barge that ran aground off El Nido town last week has already been removed from its grounding position located within the waters of Sitio Cabigsing, Barangay Buena Suerte, the Coast Guard Substation (CGSS) in the municipality said.

CGSS El Nido station personnel aboard FB Northwind went to the location of LCT OMS 6 on Monday, February 12, to monitor and supervise the towing operation using the LCT Sydney Alyssa II.

In a statement, the Coast Guard said the LCT OMS 6 “was successfully extracted” and “towed en route to a safe area,” pending the availability of a berthing space at the town port.

Authorities also said they have inspected the grounding and ensured that the barge did not create any coral damage or oil spill.

The barge, manned by Capt. Antonino Botero along with 15 crew members, left Cabangan port in Zambales to deliver 1,200 cubic meters of sand to El Nido.
