Gratitude is a virtue, just as patience is.
It is finding the goodness of the heart
In the midst of a bullying, careless, mocking world.
The heart looks down deep, deep, deeper
Than the shallow precepts and ideas of men.
It must be torn from the ordinary,
The mundane, the futile, the nonsensical
To connect to the Deep. He is the Deep.
It must throw off all prideful timidity
To search well into the soul
And release it from its blight.
Gratitude is a virtue for the profound of heart.
It is being in debt to the Infinite Source
Of the infinite grace we receive
And the unending mercy we do not deserve.
Thank your Maker, O man!
Glorify your Master, O peoples!
Be grateful for breath, purpose, and strength.
Shower Him with thanksgiving for love and hope.
Lay down and admit in humility
That He is the reason you wake each day.
He holds the ransom for your very life.
“It is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and
more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.”
2 Corinthians 4:15
