GAB to support retired boxing title holders

GAB Chair Baham Mitra says the board also provides allowance to former champs.

The Games and Amusement Board (GAB) and Naris Singhwangcha Foundation will hand out monthly allowances to retired pugs who once held a world title.

Under the program, retired boxers who once became holders of a WBC, IBF, WBA, or WBO title but do not have a stable means of income will receive PHP3,000 monthly allowance beginning January 1, 2018.

It’s from my personal money,” Singhwangcha told sports website Dugout Philippines.

“I’m willing to help former champions who have no jobs and income now. We need to help them have a better life,” Singhwangcha said.

On how they can avail the incentives, he said, “All they need is to register to GAB.”

GAB Chairman Abraham Kahlil Mitra said that the cost of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and CT Scan is so high which hinders the former boxing champs to undergo medical treatment.

“Only active Licensed fighters (ang may medical assistance) but meron naman P3,000 a month sa lahat former champions,” Mitra said.
