In line with the month-long Women’s Month celebration, Barangay Rio Tuba in Bataraza held a fun-run Thursday, with a theme “Takbo para sa Kababaihan.”
The fun-run, spearheaded by Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) and Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC), took off at the community relations building to Sitio Tuka Angri as first station, then to at Sitio Kanumay to barangay hall covered court. Employees of RTNMC and CBNC participated in the fun-run.
Reynaldo Dela Rosa, Community Relations Manager of RTNMC said that this activity is intended to give importance the celebration of the women’s day which March 8, and as part of the 69th Founding Anniversary of bgy. Rio Tuba.
“Yong fun-run ay para bigyang importansya ang ating mga kababaihan, para ipadama sa kanila ang importansya nila sa lipunan. Isa pa, nandito kami sa barangay nila, kaya syempre kasama kami at sumusuporta sa lahat ng mga events nila,” dela Rosa said.
A symposium on RA 9710 or the Magna Carta of Women of 2009 and the RA 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Act of 2004 was held to empower the women in the community of their rights.
“Dapat alam ng lahat ang karapatan ng mga kababaihan. Kung dati mayroong diskriminasyon ngayon wala na,” he said.
The Magna Carta of Women is a comprehensive women’s human rights law that seeks to eliminate discrimination against women by recognizing, respecting, protecting, fulfilling and promoting the rights of the Filipino women and those in marginalized sectors. While, VAWC refers to any act committed by any person against a woman which result in physical, sexual, psychological harm, harassment or arbitrary deprivation of liberty.
