Four reported members of the New People’s Army (NPA) operating around the area of Brooke’s Point in Southern Palawan have surrendered to the operating units of Western Command (WESCOM) in Camp General Artemio Ricaforte, Puerto Princesa City.
Two of them were identified as Jeffrey Sampaca, 25, and Henry Minduk, 18. They reportedly surrendered Wednesday. Both were from Sitio Tabud, Barangay Saraza, Brookes Point. They reportedly surrendered one unit of M16 (Bushmaster) with one short magazine, one unit of M1 Garand with five clips of ammunition, two improvised explosive device (IED’s), one rocket parachute flare and other war materials.
The two other other surrenderees, both female, were identified as Germalyn Pitogo, 16, and Analy Ansa, 19, both from Sitio Macagua, Barangay Amas, Brookes Point. They reportedly surrendered Thursday trough the intervention of Panglima Pitogo, father of Germalyn. The two reportedly turned over a shotgun to military authorities.
Major General Galileo Gerard Kinatanar Jr., WESCOM Commander said the surrender of the four individuals “is a serious blow to the ranks of the communist terrorism in the province”.
“This is also a clear indication of their unwillingness to continue with the armed struggle that according to them is tainted by corruption among their leaders, fatigue and disappointment,” he added.
WESCOM officials said the surrenderees will receive assistance from the government under its Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP).
