Foreign fishing vessels caught in Balabac

Two foreign fishing vessels were caught by authorities Friday for alleged poaching and illegal fishing in Brgy. Mangsee, Balabac,Palawan.

Insp. Geremy Ian Magbanua of the police Maritime Special Operation Unit said they were conducting patrol operations when they first saw a foreign fishing vessels with a five man crew and loaded with 10 drums of assorted fish.

At around 2pm on the same day, they also caught a small fishing vessel or banca bearing the name M/V Napsara with three crew members and 200 tons of tanbark.

The crew of the vessel were charged with poaching and violation of the Fisheries Code of the Philippines while those in the banca were charged with violating the Forestry Code of the Philippines.

The vessels are now in the custody of the 2nd Maritime Special Operation Unit at Honda Bay, Brgy. Sta. Lourdes pending investigation.
