Rep. Gil Acosta, 3rd District Palawan, has filed a resolution at the House of Representatives urging the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to establish a fishport complex in Barangay Macarascas.
Acosta said the proposal is aimed at developing the area as a key landing point for marine products in the Palawan mainland.
The project has an estimated budget of P20 million but was not yet included in the proposed 2018 national budget.
“Kapag okay na sa Senate, bago pa hahanapan ng pondo pero sa ngayon kasi hindi pa ito naisama sa 2018 budget,” he said.
Tabang added that Macarascas has its existing port but needs to improve to make it more accessible.
Jane Villarin, Barangay Captain of Macarascas, said that the proposed facility would help their fishing sector and provide job opportunities to their community.
Barangays Bahile, Buenavista, Tagabinet and other coastal barangays can also bring their products in the proposed improved port.
