The inaugural Fish Festival in Puerto Princesa City was launched yesterday, June 14, with the theme, “Ang Isda at ang Pangarap, Tagumpay!”
“Now is the right time to focus on our fishermen in the city,” Silverio Blas, ang City Fish Port Superintendent told Palawan News.
Blas said that Palawan is rich in marine resources which “we should be proud of.”
“Iyong ibang lugar nga may mga festival ng mga isda kahit ang pinagpipyestahan nila ay galing dito sa atin sa Palawan, tayo pa na dito galing sa atin ang mga yaman. “ he pointed out.
He admitted that there are some sectors in Puerto Princesa City that are opposing the event.
“We did not bow down to their negativity so that these event will push through, ” he said.
Blas said the Fish Festival will be an annual event although some has proposed that it should be held monthly.
“Tuwang tuwa ang mga mamamayan natin na nakikita nilang buhay pa ang mga isda na binibenta dito, syempre nakakatiyak tayo na sariwa ito.” he said.
He said that consumers can buy fresh fish at a cheap price during the duration of the event.
We are also studying proposals to have a free grilled fish for customers during the festival, he said.
Blas, citing data from his office, said that for May their collection increased to P700,000.
“Malaki ang potensyal na malalampasan pa natin ang goal natin sa collection ngayong taon dahil sa mga programa na ipinatutupad ng ating pamunuan, ” he said.
