The municipal government of El Nido has received a P2 million cash award from the Department of Agriculture for being among the top 100 municipalities in the country that have been able to register the highest number of boats under a registry campaign initiated by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
Mayor Nieves Rosento said that aside from the P2 million cash award from the DA, El Nido also received P1 million cash for their livelihood projects for fisherfolks in their town.
Vicente Binasahan, DA agricultural program coordinating officer for Palawan North said the award of El Nido is for complying with the registration of its boats to BFAR.
“Dito sa Palawan, El Nido lang nakakatanggap at isa sya sa top 100 na LGU sa Pilipinas na may pinakamaraming bangkang narehistro,” he said.
Most C in El Nido are used in tourism related activities, mainly for island tours. Municipal records showed there are 288 motorized boats used in island tours in El Nido during peak tourism seasons.
