To cope with El Nido’s fast-growing tourism sector, the Bureau of Fire Protection has designated a senior fire officer that will head the department’s full-fledged fire station.
Senior Fire Officer 4 Arturo Pablico Jr., who was formally introduced to local authorities on Monday, will be the town’s municipal fire prevention officer.
“We will be training volunteers on firefighting techniques, so they can help us out when a fire incident occurs,” he told Palawan News.
At present, he said five fire officers have been deployed in El Nido and are coordinating with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).
El Nido administrator RJ de la Calzada said the municipal government is processing the transfer of a local government property to the BFP in Bgy. Villa Libertad.
“We will be donating that area where they can put up the station by next year,” de la Calzada said.
Pablico said the building construction and the purchase of firefighting equipment will be funded by the national government. A firetruck manned by seven fire officers will also be placed at the station.
Meanwhile, the MDRRMO has two firetrucks that can respond to fire incidents, de la Calzada added.
