Duterte reiterates promise to give Palawan’s share in Malampaya project

President Rodrigo Duterte during his visit to Palawan Thursday, April 6, reiterated his previous promise that he will give to Palaweños the province’s share in the Malampaya natural gas project.

President Duterte previously made the same statement during his campaign for the 2016 national elections, a promise which he repeated in today’s visit.

It’s fully yours. Why would we claim it? Kapag binigay ko sa inyo ‘yan you would be the richest province in the entire Philippines,” Duterte said.

He however asked how Palawan would spend the money from the share amounting to around Php70B. He added that Palawan should share it to the government.

What would you do with the money? Good na rin kayo dito. E ‘di ibigay na lang ninyo sa iba. I need money to build houses,” he said.

The President did not commit whether Palawan will receive the said shares before his term ends.

“Hindi binayaran ni Gloria, hindi binayaran ni PNOY, baka hindi makalimutan ni Duterte ang utang na ‘yan,” he said.

In his visit to the Western Command, President Duterte was briefed on various security updates on the West Philippine Sea, developments in Recto Bank (Reed Bank) involving other claimant countries, oil explorations, as well as the sustained peace efforts on Internal Security Operations in Palawan.
