The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Palawan has reported 11 establishments that sell substandard products in violation of the products standard law.
Most of the 11 establishments reported to be selling substandard products were located within Puerto Princesa City while two were located in the municipality of Narra.
DTI Provincial Director Rosenda Fortunado said establishments should only sell and dispense prducts that are sealed with an Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) and Product Standard (PS) seal and serial number.
The seal will guarantee the consumers that the product’s manufacturer is DTI-licensed and was inspected by the DTI thoroughly.
“Dapat ang isang produkto, ang manufacturer kailangan ay lisensyado ng DTI, bago sila bigyan ng lisensya ng DTI at dapat nainspeksyon ang kanilang planta,” said Fortunado.
She said that products that requires a seal of ICC and PS are those appliances and electricity operated product, and construction materials.
“Ang madalas na sakop nitong Product Standard at seal ng ICC ay yung mga appliances, yung mga sinasaksak sa kuryente at mga gamit sa construction,” Fortunado said.
She added, the seal and its serial number will guarantee that the products are safe to use and are qualified as standard.
“This is a sign (the ICC seal and PS Seal) na safe ang product, dahil ang manufacturer ay compliant sa product standard,” she said.
The provincial director also warned the consumers that some have fake seals of ICC and PS.
Yet, with the monitoring of the DTI, unauthentic seals will be confiscated and establishments will be charged of violation to the product standard law.
“May mga fake rin kasi na seals.. Pag nagmomonitor kami, we identify kung ano yung authentic na seal at hindi,” said Fortunado.
The DTI conducts its ocular inspection on establishments monthly to check out substandard materials and products.
