Two hospitals in the Province of Palawan bagged the Red Orchid Hall of Fame Award of the Department Health (DOH) for implementing the 100% Tobacco-Free Environment program and by applying the six tobacco-control policies of the World Health Organization (WHO) in their community and workplace for three consecutive years.
The Culion Sanitarium and General Hospital in northern Palawan and the Southern Palawan Provincial Hospital won the award, together with the Municipality of Alcantara in Romblon.
The said awardees were announced on Thursday, May 25 at Luxent Hotel in Timog Avenue, Quezon City.
The two hospitals were not the only entities awarded with the Hall of Fame distinction, however. The PhilHealth Provincial Office and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) were also awarded with the same honor. However, only the top two choices will represent the region in the national awards to be held this year.
“From these winners, only two will be chosen as regional winners who will compete for the national awards which will be held also this year,” Regional Director Eduardo Janairo stated.
The 2016 winners of the Barangay Best Sanitation Practices (NSBBSP) were also announced in the said venue, which included barangays from Marinduque and Romblon. The winning barangays will receive cash incentives from DOH-MIMAROPA.
“These incentives will be used to sustain and further improve their program in health and sanitation in the community,” Janairo said.
