While its personnel are prepared to fight fires, the Bureau of Fire Protection in Puerto Princesa City is only maximizing its existing manpower to immediately respond to many fire calls.

City Fire Department Chief Donald Rodriguez disclosed that they only have 16 personnel and many of them are assigned to different administrative work.

Rodriguez said that this problem was already raised to the BFP main office yet until now the request is still not granted.

Despite of this problem, he assured that his team is ready to respond to fire calls of city residents. The City Fire Department has seven fire trucks.

The BFP in the city has been conducting fire prevention education activities including fire drills in schools and offices throughout the year.

Based on the data of the BFP the common cause of fire is faulty electrical wiring. It also advises those who burn grasses to be extra careful as it may affect the surrounding properties.

Most of the fire incidents this January were grass fires and a number of structural fires.
