The annual DSPC announces its winners

Around 700 young journalists from elementary and secondary schools in Puerto Princesa City competed in the annual Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) last October 16-18, 2017.

Kisha Nicole G. Paladan of Mauricio Reynoso Memorial Elementary School topped the Newswriting in Filipino, elementary category, while Jonalyn Butolan from Cabayugan National High School was 1st in the secondary level.  For English News Writing category in the secondary level, Puerto Princesa National High School representative Rhoda Grace Delos Reyes bagged 1st place while Dianne Abegail Maristela from PHCS garnered 1st place in the elementary division.

For Copyreading and Headline Writing elementary level Filipino category, Mary Eliza Juarez from Sta. Monica Elementary School was 1st place while Joanna Cyrelle Asag from Palawan National School (PNS) was 1st on the secondary division. For English category secondary level, Anne Maegan Ayala and Erin Grace Ocampo from PHCS dominated on the both secondary and elementary division.

For Filipino Feature Writing elementary level, Andres Palco III from Sta. Monica Elementary School garnered 1st place and Jhun Christian Sobrevega from Holy Trinity University topped the secondary division. For English Feature Writing elementary level, Julienne Allison Rengel from PHCS bagged 1st while Daniel Dalisay from PNS aced the top spot.

For Editorial Writing Filipino category, Althea Rica Lerio from Mangingisda Elementary School won 1st place while Mary Lou Badilla from Irawan National Highschool was topped the secondary division. For Editorial Writing English category elementary level, Eli Marc Apacible from Puerto Princesa Elementary School won 1st place while Alliane Saluta was 1st place for the secondary division.

For Science and Technology Writing Filipino category, Mary Eliza Suarez from Sta. Monica Elementary School took the 1st place while Stella Mariz Ybañez from PNS topped on the secondary level.  For Science and Technology Writing English category elementary level, Jazel Charmaine Mercado and Kim Alfred Magbanua from PHCS ranked 1st in the elementary and secondary division respectively.

For Editorial Cartooning Filipino category, Nyl Ernest Lozada from Sta. Monica Elementary School took the first place and Jhonlex Ammanje from San Jose National Highschool ranked 1st for the secondary division.  For the English category, Frank Cheyan Scott Walker from Sicsican Elementary School won 1st place and Joash John Montealegre from PNS was 1st for the secondary division.

For Photojournalism category Filipino category,  Xayza Lagrada from Sta. Monica Elementary School ranked 1st and Leila Suarnaba from PNS aced the 1st spot. For English category, Justine Hussin and Benedict Emmanuel Pe from PHCS won the 1st place for both elementary and secondary levels.

For Sports Writing Filipino category, Lorraine Letrero from Sta. Monica Elementary School took the 1st place and Loreen May Peria  from PNS ranked 1st for the secondary division. For English category, Sophia Maristela from PHCS aced on the top while Lance Marco Arcinas from Palawan State University – Laboratory Highschool ranked 1st place.

For school paper category English- elementary level, East Central School’s “Rising East” took the 1st place and “Ang Rancho” from Sta. Monica Elementary School won the top spot. For secondary English level, “The Palawenians”  and “Layog Palawenian” from PNS garnered 1st place on both levels.

The winners are set to represent the Puerto Princesa City Division in the upcoming Division Schools Press Conference Regional Competition to be held tentatively on December 6-8, 2017 in Tagaytay City, Cavite.
