The city tourism office has set a target of bringing in 1 million tourists this year utilizing even low-cost promotional efforts including social media campaigning.
Promotions and Marketing Officer Michie Meneses said the city last year drew around 900,000 tourists, up from over 800,000 the previous year. She said the figure was a significant contribution of Palawan to the national tourist arrival of 6.5 million.
In 2016, she said Puerto Princesa had 856,764 tourists.
Meneses said that based on their computation, the city tourism industry can manage to contribute one million tourists.
“So far sa ginagawa naming computation malalampasan pa talaga natin ang total tourist arrivals ng 2017 na dumating dito lungsod,” she claimed.
To do this, she said the CTD is intensifying its social media campaign in order to reach the global market.
“We are utilizing our page because it is the cheapest way of promoting our tourist destinations,” she said. For 2018, the CTD has a budget of P2 million for promotions and marketing.
Meneses also said that they are banking on the city’s various Community-Based Sustainable Tourism (CBST) sites that can attract foreign guests, who wish to have rich and high-quality experience.
“Bini-build up din natin ang ating mga CBST clusters para malaman na marami pa palang i-o-offer ang Puerto Princesa sa kanila,” she said.
Meneses added that they will beef up their efforts to attract investors that can help in the construction of much-need tourist facilities.
