The municipality of Brooke’s Point, led by its local government unit, is set to host this year’s MIMAROPA Regional Athletic Association Meet (MIMAROPARAA) slated on February 17 to 21.
The municipal government is on full blast with its preparations to ensure that all the required facilities, such as playing venues, billeting quarters and other appropriate services, are ready in time for the arrival of delegations from the provinces of Mindoro Occidental, Mindoro Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan and the cities of Calapan and Puerto Princesa.
Brooke’s Point Mayor Mary Jean Feliciano is diligently mobilizing the support of the local citizenry to complement the efforts of the municipal government in preparing the locality for the hosting of the said event.
Governor Jose Ch. Alvarez is also extending his full support to the municipality in terms of funding and technical help, particularly in the improvement of the town’s sports facilities. Brooke’s Point currently hosts a modest but well-maintained collection of sports venues, including a municipal sports complex, track-and-field oval, a newly-established people’s park equipped with a medium-sized training pool for competing swimmers, tennis courts and basketball courts, among others.
The municipality of Brooke’s Point is an emerging eco-tourism destination and trading center in southern Palawan. Businesses from both local and national firms are now setting up shop in the locality. The town’s busy seaport accommodates vessels plying the routes from major trading hubs in the Visayas and Mindanao, as well as the “barter trading” posts from the neighboring islands of Borneo particularly from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
