Brooke’s Point celebrated its 69th founding anniversary on Thursday, harping on the town’s emergent role as the main growing region in southern Palawan.
The town was formed on June 28, 1948 through an executive order (EO 232) issued by then president Elpidio Quirino. Town officials and residents today boast of Brooke’s Point as being one of the most progressive towns in Palawan with its strong agriculture sector.
The municipality had its theme “Pagkakaisa’y palakasin, Kaunlaran sama-sama nating kamtin” for the anniversary.
Noemi Lagan, a local entrepreneur who was the guest speaker during formal opening of the anniversary celebrations, noted the fast pace of economic development in Brooke’s Point and urged locals to adopt and take advantage of growth opportunities.
“Marami ng nagsulputang mga business establishments dito sa Brooke’s Point dahil sa mahusay na pamumuno ng ating gobyerno. Hindi tayo naging handa sa mabilis na pag-asenso, kaya kailangan nating maging masikap, makipag-isa upang hindi tayo mahuli sa pag-unlad,” Lagan said.
The town’s festivities started with a morning motorcade led by Mayor Mary Jean Feliciano and a program held at the Octagon covered court.
Among the highlights of the day’s events were a quiz bee competition between local schools, singing and dance contests and a boat race dubbed Bangkasiyahan.
