The provincial board on Tuesday approved a resolution authorizing Governor Jose Chavez Alvarez to enter into an agreement with the municipality of Brooke’s Point that will pave the way for the release of some P500,000 in financial assistance to the town for hosting the forthcoming 2017 Provincial Meet.
Board Member Sharon Abiog-Onda said the money will mainly be used for providing billeting quarters to the participating athletes and for utility services that will be incurred by the municipality.
She added that island municipalities including Agutaya, Araceli, Busuanga, Cagayancillo, Coron, Culion, Cuyo, Linapacan, Magsaysay, Dumaran and Balabac will also provide financial assistance amounting P300,000 each to cover the transportation of their delegates.
Local officials said the budget for the games will come from the Special Educational Funds (SEF) Surplus under their 2017 supplementary budget.
Municipal Mayor Mary Jean Feliciano said earlier they have firmed up the plans following several meetings with the Department of Education (DepEd) and with police and military authorities concerning security and other requirements for the week-long athletic event.
The town has also allocated a budget of around P4M that will be used for sports equipment and preparation of the municipality’s sporting venues.
The Provincial Meet is scheduled on November 26 to December 1.
