To enliven Palaweño enthusiasm for sports and other outdoor activities, the city government is once again co-hosting the Beach Sport International festival on May 28 to 30 at the Baywalk Boulevard in Puerto Princesa. Now on its second year, the said sports festival is opening competition for Beach Water Polo and Open Water Swim.
The event, which is jointly organized by the local government with Pilipinas Water Polo, Philippine Swimming, and the Philippine Sports Commission, will feature athletes from Palawan and from places overseas like Hong Kong.
The Open Water Swim’s 500-km event is open for girls and boys aged 10 to 13, while the 2.5-km event will accommodate swimmers aged 14 to 17.
According to Information Officer Elmer Zita, the sport event will symbolize Palaweño camaraderie and unity, as well as stronger bond against threats. He added that it is also a move to show tourists that Palaweños are remaining calm despite the current bouts of security threats to the province.
