Bagong Silang, Puerto Princesa City early morning Sunday, displacing an estimated 200 households. The fire was put under control at around 10:30 and authorities said there were no reported injuries.
Local authorities have put up a temporary evacuation center for the displaced residents by converting their barangay hall, basketball court and a nearby chapel.
“Hindi bababa sa 200 kabahayan ang napinsala ng sunog. Sa ngayon, mayroon kaming barangay hall ipapagamit natin, chapel at basketball courts, lalagyan natin ng tent,” Victoria Oblan, a barangay official, said.
Oblan added the fire was the second incident in the area this year.
Senior Fire Inspector Nilo Caabay Jr declared the fire “under control” at around 10:30AM.
Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron arrived at the area as the fire was being put under control to coordinate relief efforts and assess the extent of the fire damage.
Fire Officer 3 Lodrin Bacunga, lead investigator, said based on initial investigation, the fire started in the house of a certain Cris Danyo and spread quickly in the neighborhood.
Representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Red Cross, and the city government have joined efforts to organize assistance efforts for the affected residents.
