Judge Angelo Arizala of Branch 52 will now serve as the Executive Judge of Palawan’s Regional Trial Court, replacing Judge Jose Bayani Usman, after Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno’s issuance of Administrative Order No. 158-2016, dated September 14, 2016. Arizala specifically assumes the position from September 16, 2016 to September 15, 2018, or until his designation is sooner revoked.
In an interview with Palawan News, Judge Arizala admitted that he wasn’t expecting the position.
“Hindi, hindi talaga. Wala, kasi prerogative ‘yan ng Chief Justice. So kung sino ang gusto niyang ilagay ah ‘yun ang ilalagay niya. Ang term ay for 2 years. It can be extended, it can be shortened,” the newly designated Executive Judge explained.
Arizala believes that being the Executive Judge is a position of prestige, and that it entails additional responsibility, with no additional monetary benefits. “Mas mahirap ang posisyon ko [compared to] as an ordinary judge. Parang embodiment of the judiciary,’ he said.
Although admitting that he feels challenged by the task of maintaining the judicial profession of the law in the entire province, Arizala vows that he will continue what his predecessors have started. “We will continue what the other Executive Judges have initiated, we have the same objectives (naman) although we may have varying strategies,” he said.
Meanwhile, Arizala’s predecessor, Judge Jose Bayani Usman, said he’s confident that the new Executive Judge will continue the projects and programs he initiated. Usman also extended his gratitude to former colleagues.
“I just wish to thank the SC for giving me the opportunity to lead the judiciary in Palawan for two and a half years. Also wish to thank my colleagues, the branch clerk of court, and the rank-and-file for their whole-hearted support. Thanks also to the leadership and general membership of the IBP-Palawan chapter for their support,” Usman shared.
