Authorities recovered 525 hawk bill turtles inside a resort owned by a French national Thursday in Roxas town, Palawan.The joint operation conducted by the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development, Intelligence Branch of the Palawan Provincial Police Office and the provincial government of Palawan netted the 525 turtles inside an aquarium in Kaliksi island Resort, Brgy. Tumarbong, Roxas.
Chief Inpector Vicente Cabatingan, head of the PPPO Intelligence Branch said the noontime operation was based on the search warrant issued by Judge Ambrosio De Luna of Regional Trial Court Branch 51.
The authorities also nabbed Conchita Manabat, Manuel Faustino, Ophelia Jimenez, Leonora Ventura, and Luz Bernardo.
They were charged for violating Sec. 27 of Republic Act 9147 for collecting, hunting or prossesing wildlife, their by-products and derivatives.Also recovered inside the resort were 106.3 board feet of ipil tress. Cabatingan said they put the resort under surveillance for one month after receiving reports from a concerned citizen.
The resort is owned by Robert A Pfingten Sr., a French national.The turtles will be taken to a sanctuary then will be released back to the sea.
